About 30 minutes drive from the colonial city of Comitan Chiapas is El Chiflon, a waterfall that seemingly protrudes from the mountainside and as you drive towards it, it has the shape of angel’s wings.
There is an Eco Center at the entrance to the Chiflon Reserve, and a paved walkway that hugs the edge of the river. There are small huts and BBQ areas where you can bring your own food to enjoy a picnic, the center also offers cabins, shops, a restaurant, a parking lot, a camping site and activities such as the zip-line, mountain biking, wall climbing and a nature path, where you can take nice pictures.
The river has several pools and calm stretches, so bathing is possible and the water is not too deep. Please bring your swim suit if you want to enjoy the fresh water of the river, but take heed of the advice regarding dangerous areas, swim only where it is obviously safe and where you see others, especially locals.
The Falls are spectacular all year round as Chiapas is in the sub-tropics. However if you want to experience the waters at the fullest, come in the rainy season between May and September, but if you want to see the picturesque colors, the blue, green, and turquoise reflected in the waters, visit the waterfall in the dry
